Local councils, rescue teams in Johor told to be prepared for floods

JOHOR BAHRU (Bernama) – The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, yesterday urged local councils and related rescue agencies in the state to be alert and prepared during the current period of unpredictable weather.

His Majesty said early preparation and planning was essential in ensuring that assistance could be immediately given if an area was hit by floods, especially with the recent heavy rains.

“Because of the current unpredictable weather, it is very important for everyone, especially rescue teams, to be prepared and ready,” the Sultan said on his official Facebook page.

Sultan Ibrahim also reminded parents and guardians to always monitor their children in the event of a flood.

“We don’t want anything untoward to happen. During floods we can also see how people come to help each other regardless of beliefs. This is also an opportunity to strengthen our unity in Bangsa Johor,” he said.

On September 9, His Majesty visited flood victims from Kampong Sungai Suloh and Kampong Sungai Ayam who were evacuated to a relief centre in Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Suloh, Batu Pahat.
