Local citizen, permanent resident fined for customs violations

A LOCAL citizen and a permanent resident were yesterday ordered by the Magistrate’s Court to settle their fines incurred for violating the Customs and Excise Order.

Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman ordered Cheu Ying Choi, 41, to pay a fine of BND10,300, or serve 10 months’ imprisonment in default, after he pleaded guilty to possessing two cartons and 48 packets of cigarettes, as well as 26 bottles and 19 cans of alcoholic beverages at his work quarters in Kampong Rimba, on December 31, 2018.

Meanwhile, permanent resident Goi Si Zhen, 46, was ordered to settle a fine of BND5,100, or serve six months’ imprisonment in default, after he pleaded guilty to being in possession of 31 bottles and 12 cans of alcoholic beverages in his car, on arrival at the Kuala Lurah Control Post on February 10.
