Nine local businesses were slapped with compound fines totalling BND1,750 in a nationwide Merati Operation conducted by the Health Enforcement Division under the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The January 11-17 operation found employees at eateries, barbershops and health and beauty establishments not wearing face masks.

According to the MoH, 51 business premises were inspected during the operation, which targetted areas in Batu Bersurat, Anggerek Desa, Manggis, Menglait and Telanai in the Brunei-Muara District. In the Belait District, it was held in Pekan Seria.

The operation also covered Kampong Sengkarai, Kampong Bukit Sibut and Kampong Tanjong Maya in Tutong District and Pekan Bangar in the Temburong District.

Business owners, managers and staff members are reminded to comply with the MoH-issued instructions and regulations, especially employees involved in the preparation and handling of food.
