Local biker Pengiran Haji Redzaini bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad is attempting to break the record for the first solo motorcycle ride from Sarawak to Sabah using the Pan Borneo Highway.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin flagged off the attempt dubbed Saddlesore Solo Ride 2020 at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) yesterday.

Pengiran Haji Redzaini will head towards Bintulu and Sibu before arriving in Kuching on February 29.

On March 1, he will attempt the non-stop solo ride from Teluk Melano, Sarawak to the tip of Borneo in Kudat, Sabah covering a distance of nearly 1,400km within 24 hours.

From Kudat, he will travel back to Brunei, passing through Kota Kinabalu. The distance covered for the week-long expedition is approximately 3,200km.

Pengiran Haji Redzaini is no stranger to long distance riding as he actively participates in regional and international biking festivals in his capacity as President of Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA).

His biggest challenge is time because if there is any delay or obstruction along the way, he could miss border-checks and will be forced to spend the night at the control posts.

During preparation, Pengiran Haji Redzaini collected detailed information on the places along the journey as well as weather patterns.

“Weather is also a factor. If it rains, it will be very difficult to ride on the motorcycle. But hopefully, the weather will be on my side and I can complete the journey without any issues,” he said.

Pengiran Haji Redzaini is also promoting the 21st Borneo Island International Big Bike Festival 2020 to be held in Brunei Darussalam on June 26 to 28 in Kuala Belait.

A Doa Selamat was recited to bless the expedition.
