Local author nominated for SEA Write Award

Local author Dr Haji Morsidi bin Haji Muhamad (Morsidi M H) and his work Kumpulan Sajak Sungai, LAUT dan KiTA have been nominated for the 2021 Southeast Asia (SEA) Write Award.

The Mengagai ceremony was held at Dr Haji Morsidi’s residence in Jalan Selayun-Jerudong, Sengkurong, attended by a delegation led by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Cultural) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah.

Morsidi M H is an active writer and researcher in literary activities both locally and abroad. His works include research, judging, mentoring, lecturing, paper presentation and forum panellist.

He has been writing since 1973 with write-ups in several genres including drama (for radio, television and stage), short story (cerpen), poetry, essays and criticism.

Among his solo writings are Titisan Air Mata Duyung (1980), Air Biru Ombak Biru: Satu Analisis Gaya Bahasa (2000), Muslim Burmat dan Karyanya: Satu Analisis Stilistik (2003), Asap (2008), Puisi Moden Brunei Sebelum Merdeka: Satu Kajian Tentang Tema, Citra dan Perlambangan (2010), Puisi Islam Brunei Darussalam dalam Hubungannya dengan Puisi Islam Nusantara (2011) and Kumpulan Sajak Sungai, LAUT dan KiTA (2021).

The 2021 SEA Write Award is a show of recognition for writers in regional and national literature. The nomination, not only lifts the writers’ names to a higher standard, but also encourages them to continue to be creative in contributing to Malay literature development.

The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), through its Research, Documentation and Accreditation Division, has been entrusted as the secretariat of the SEA Write Award. Every nomination selected by judges in different countries will be assessed based on their publication works, according to the genre stated by the organiser in Bangkok, Thailand.

DBP Acting Director Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, DBP Acting Deputy Director Hajah Haireni binti Haji Damit, senior officials, judges for the SEA Write Award and Secretariat of the Accreditation Unit also attended the event.
