Litterbugs issued compound fines

Three individuals and a local company recently were each issued with compound fines by personnel of the Law Enforcement Unit of Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department for disposing rubbish and construction waste as well as cigarette butts in Serusop, Gadong, Jaya Setia and Berakas, a violation under Section 12(1)(a) of the Minor Offences Act.

The offenders were caught red handed during the routine operation codenamed Operasi Bersih 8/2020. Yogi Farid Fauzi from Indonesia and Houwen Gong from China were slapped with a fine of BND100 each while local Ang Sak Ping was issued with a BND300 fine. Meanwhile Syarikat Systemair Enterprise was issued with a fine of BND200.

The public and business premises are reminded not to dispose rubbish and cigarette butts in public areas and to respect the country’s law.

The offenders have to settle the compound fine within seven days at the third floor of BSB Municipal Department.

If they fail, the case will be brought to the court and will result in a fine of BND1,000 or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.

For subsequent offences, the penalty is a fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to three months.
