Litterbugs caught red-handed, fined

A total of 38 local companies and 65 individuals were issued compound fines after being caught red-handed violating Section 12 (1), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act during a nationwide operation by enforcement officers.

Ops Bersih – One Nation detected the improper disposal of trash and cigarette butts by 27 locals, 22 Bangladeshis, seven Indonesians, two Malaysians, two Indians, a Filipino and a Nepalese.

Sixty personnel from the Law Enforcement Division of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department, Tutong Municipal Department, Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Department, Brunei-Muara District Office, Tutong District Office, Belait District Office and Temburong District Office were involved in the February 1-4 operation.

Under the BSB Municipal Department, one company and 25 individuals were levied compound fines totalling BND2,700, while under the Tutong Municipal Department, one individual caught littering was fined BND100.

Meanwhile, eight companies and 13 individuals received compound fines for Minor Offences Act violations, totalling BND3,100. Under the Brunei-Muara District Office, 38 companies and 23 individuals were found to have violated the Minor Offences Act, with compound fines issued totalling BND11,200. For the Tutong District Office, one company was fined BND500, while for the Belait District Office, three individuals were issued compound fines totalling BND300.

There were no violations in areas under the Temburong District Office’s jurisdiction.
