The Southeast Asian Literature Council (MASTERA) recently organised the 9th MASTERA Literary (HSM) and MASTERA Creative Writing awards.
The project, coordinated by MASTERA Malaysia was held in collaboration with MASTERA members including Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Singapore.
In Brunei Darussalam, the 9th HSM was awarded to Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Haji Yahya bin Haji Ibrahim (Yahya MS) through his works in ‘Kumpulan Puisi: Surat-Surat Kemerdekaan and Gagasan Ketatanegaraan dalam Syair Almarhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.
The award was announced via the Malaysia Language Literature Bureau social media platform delivered by Director General of Malaysia Language and Literature Bureau Datuk Haji Abang Sallehuddin bin Abang Haji Shokeran.
Acting Director of Brunei Langauge and Literature Bureau Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab in his capacity as Acting Chairman of MASTERA for Brunei Darussalam, the award jury, members of the MASTERA along with literature, language and culture activists attended.
Meanwhile, in the Mastera Creative Writing award, Awangku Mohd Noor Sham @ Awangku Hidie bin Pegiran Hidup from Brunei Darussalam was named champion in the category ‘Puisi Sayembara Penulisan Kreatif’ with his poem Soldadu Aksara. He won MYR3,000.
The competition aimed at producing young new writers in the field of creative writing, develop their talents as well as creative works among members of MASTERA. It also served as a medium to uphold Malay literature, language and culture in the region.
