LegCo highlights road infrastructure development

Efforts have been made to manage road infrastructure effectively in view of increased road use, including heavy machinery, and traffic congestion.

Among the projects that have been completed in the financial year 2022/2023 include 55.6 kilometres (km) of highways that have been resurfaced, 34km of main roads repaired and resurfaced as well as 6.3km of old Tutong roads repaired.

Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid said this during the 19th Legislative Council (LegCo) session yesterday.

Twenty-seven junctions (10.18km) have been upgraded from gravel to asphalt while 5.5km of district roads have been repaired.

The flyover on the Muara-Tutong and Lugu highways were put into use on February 20, 2022. Sectional repair has been carried out on Jalan Tanjong Maya-Penapar since September 2022 while the pothole along Jalan Rasau smoothed over in January.

Repair works will continue to be implemented as part of the National Development Plan, he said.

The construction of the viaduct connecting Jalan Tanah Jambu to Jalan Utama Mentiri which has been stopped since 2021 will be restarted and expects to be fully completed in early 2024, the minister said, adding that the project is intended to provide a shortcut for road users to Temburong from the Muara-Tutong Highway, via Jalan Utama Tanah Jambu, Jalan Utama Mentiri, Jalan Kota Batu and Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge.
