Legal talk sheds light on Islamic inheritance law

Understanding the principles of faraid (Islamic inheritance law) is essential for every Muslim, as numerous issues arise when it comes to the division of inherited property.

A lack of in-depth knowledge about faraid often leads to conflicts and divisions among family members. Recognising this, the RPN Kampong Panchor Mengkubau Area 2 Village Consultative Council (MPK) organised a Legal Talk Series, inviting lawyer Yusof Halim to speak on ‘Distribution of Inherited Property: Gift, Will and Faraid’.

Yusof Halim, who has served as the President of the Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) since 2018, shared insights into inheritance processes that align with Islamic law, with a particular focus on the concepts of hibah (gifting), wasiat (wills) and faraid.

The event, at the Mentiri Community Hall, saw attendance from MPK members across all areas of RPN Kampong Panchor Mengkubau. The gathering aimed to enhance community understanding of faraid and its role in promoting family harmony. – Fadley Faisal
