In accordance with the academic manual of a local university, there should be no classes on Wednesday afternoons to allow students to participate in extra-curricular activities.
However, many lecturers have chosen to ignore it. Instead, they would schedule classes or tutorials on those afternoons, forcing their students to miss all their non-academic commitments.
Despite having reported the violation to the registrar, no action has yet been taken to rectify it. In fact, when I recently reminded a lecturer of the rule, I was told off and threatened with an ‘F’ grade.
Allowing these lecturers to get away with it will only cause more grievances to the students, especially the ones who have extra-curricular activities scheduled for those afternoons.
