Azlan Othman

The Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (BKISHHB) held a knowledge-sharing session on ‘Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) Mimbar (pulpit): History and Advantages’, yesterday for the workforce of BKISHHB titled delivered by Acting Director of Dar Al-Siddiq for Sciences, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Dr Nezar Mahmoud Kasem Alsheikh.

It was held to enable BKISHHB workforce to enhance their knowledge and gather valuable information on the life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the history, period, and place relating to the Prophet (pbuh) on the Prophet’s (pbuh) pulpit based on Hadith books, Sirah, or the journey of the Prophet (pbuh), and historical books.

The BKISHHB workforce also had an opportunity to take a closer look at the replica of the pulpit of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) made in the 8th Hijrah before it was destroyed in a fire at An-Nabawi Mosque in 654 Hijrah. Based on the study by Dr Nezar, he was able to make a model of the Prophet’s (pbuh) pulpit according to the specifications and exact measurements using wood from the Athal tree, also known as the Tarfa tree, found around Madinah Al-Munawwarah.

The wood was similarly used to make the original pulpit during the time of the Prophet (pbuh), besides producing a miniature-size pulpit.

Studies and research on the Prophet’s (pbuh) pulpit were published in a book entitled al-Durr al-Thamin fi Fada’il Mimbar al-Nabi al-Amin, a priceless piece on the advantages of the Prophet’s (pbuh) pulpit.

Yesterday’s talk by Dr Nezar was translated into Malay by BKISHHB Director Dr Haji Awang Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Awang Ahmad.

Dr Nezar is a researcher who studies Sirah, or the journey of the Prophet (pbuh) covering the life history of the Prophet (pbuh) and historical places relating to the life of the Prophet (pbuh).

BKISHHB is an institution that stores and exhibits priceless Islamic treasures and plays a vital role in carrying out activities to collect, carry out research, study, develop, and spread information on Islamic knowledge.
