A batik appreciation workshop was organised for Year Seven students in Jerudong International School (JIS) who are taking Malay as a foreign language.
The workshop, organised by the JIS Asian Language Faculty aimed at raising awareness and appreciation for one of the most famous aspects of Malay heritage, batik.
Students are introduced to the history of batik and the different types of batik within the region. They had also experienced batik-making using authentic batik making tools such as canting, wax and other tools to create their very own batik pieces.
Head of Asian Languages Faculty at JIS Melhan Adam said, “Language learning in JIS has always been a good balance between honing students’ linguistic skills and developing cultural awareness and sensibilities.”
