The Long Distance Relay Tion (LDRT), a local running club established in 2019 and ran by athletics coach Younes Ammouta, recently marked their fourth-year anniversary with a dinner at the Mangrove Paradise Restaurant at Jalan Kota Batu.
The event also coincided with an award presentation ceremony to fete the achievements of the athletes.
The recipients of the awards were Kasyful Asymawi bin Haji Khairul Arifin, Md Arif Danial bin Eddy Norisham, Nur Asyura binti Rosli, Soon Kai Li, Abdullah Abbas bin Abdullah, Nur Aliah binti Rosli, Muhammad Nurirfan bin Muhd A’rafah and Siti Nur Hafizatul Shazana binti Hamirolnidzam.
National middle- and long-distance record holders Sefli Ahar and Jimmy Ahar as well as Muhammad Haziq bin Awang Safar, Muhd Ahdani bin Haji Yusli and Mohd Hassby bin Mohd Sidek were also in attendance.
Student-athletes Abdullah Abbas and Muhammad Nurirfan enjoyed a one-two podium finish in the Under-16 Individual Male 1,500-metre (m) event with the former winning gold and the latter taking silver at the CAK Sport Academy Track and Field Challenge Championship at the MSN Track in Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur last June.
The country’s other podium finishers included Nur Asyura after the local runner clinched silver in the Female Open 1,500m event and Kasyful Asymawi who bagged silver in the Male Open 1,500m event. – Fadhil Yunus
