Labuan marine police seize 1,170 litres of petrol

LABUAN (Bernama) – Labuan marine police have seized 1,170 litres of petrol worth RM2,433 which was stored in 48 tanks after an inspection on a suspicious lorry.

The check at 10.15am was conducted during Op Landai at Jalan Rancha-Rancha following a public tip-off.

A 46-year-old local who was the driver of the lorry was also arrested for further investigation.

Sabah Region 4 Marine police commander Assistant Commissioner Mohd Pajeri Ali said the petrol was believed to be manipulated for local market or to be smuggled to the neighbouring state.

“The petrol smuggling syndicate may be using several techniques to avoid being detected by the authorities, but because of the efficiency of our intelligence unit, we are able to curb this illegal activity.

“Efforts to address the smuggling of subsidised oil are always in place and we urge members of the public to constantly provide us the information on the illegal activity,” he said yesterday.

He said the seized items, including the vehicle are worth RM42,433.60.
