LABUAN (Bernama) – Labuan is gearing up towards becoming an expertise centre of aquatic emergencies and trauma medical response. It plans to do this by upskilling and reskilling paramedics in emergency medical services and trauma management.
Labuan Emergency and Trauma Department Director Dr Mohamad Hamim Mohamad Hanifah said the requirement (to be the centre) was to constantly organise the aquatic-emergency related programmes every year involving field experts in knowledge and skills sharing exercise.
“Such an exercise has never been implemented in the country thus far, and we can initiate it and turn Labuan into a centre for aquatic emergency medical response due to the increasing marine industries and sea sports activities here,” he told reporters after launching the 1st Borneo Aquatic Emergency Medical Response Workshop 2019 yesterday.
He noted the emergency medical services (EMS) providers are increasingly in demand in view of the escalating growth of underlying factors.
