RELIGIOUS Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Ra’es Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar announced in a press conference yesterday that the institution is offering minor courses in the Bachelor’s Degree programme for third-year (6th semester) students.
Dr Haji Adanan said, “KUPU SB is moving forward by offering a minor course programme that began in 2016, along with the formulation of new programmes, in order to align them with the needs of the community, especially stakeholders such as secondary or primary schools.
“It is also in line with the titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as Chancellor of KUPU SB for the university college to re-evaluate its existing programmes so that they are in line with the aims of KUPU SB and its stakeholders.
“This is particularly so in the development of students’ potential, so that they can develop holistically and be of benefit to themselves, their families, communities and to the nation.”
Also present at the press conference were the Dean of the Faculty of Education Associate Professor Dr Haji Zahiri bin Awang Mat; the Dean of the Faculty of Syariah Dr Rauf Amin; the Dean of the Faculty of Usuluddin Mikdar Rusdi; and Director of the International Office and Public Relations at KUPU SB Pengiran Siti Katijah binti Pengiran Sulaiman.
Dr Haji Adanan listed the 15 courses in the minor programme: Islamic Finance, Islamic Guidance and Counselling, Technology and Multimedia in Islamic Education, Al-Quran and As-Sunnah Studies, Entrepreneurship in Islamic Education, Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) Education, Fiqh Usrah, Philosophy and Islamic Thought, Education of Islamic Health Sciences, Dakwah and Leadership, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Philosophy and the History of the Arts, Usul Fiqh, Malay Language, and Islamic Literature Education.
He added, “Among the objectives of offering these courses is to meet the goals of Vision 2035 through education by producing highly-educated graduates who are skilled, visionary and competitive. In addition, it is hoped that the minor programme can prepare students both theoretically and practically, in terms of knowledge and application in the classroom and beyond.
“Furthermore, it is expected to add value and marketability to the students in determining the profession they will be involved with in the future.”
The courses will be conducted by lecturers from the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Syariah and the Faculty of Usuluddin at KUPU SB, as well as experts in related fields from other local universities.
