I would like to applaud the authorities for implementing price control on antigen rapid test (ART) kits, especially now that we’re in the third COVID-19 wave, where among the measures to keep the lid on the spread of infection is early detection using home testing.
Due to the new health protocols, there has been an increase in the demand for ART kits, with prices ranging from BND1.80 to BND15. Some opt for cheaper kits, especially those from bigger households that are on quarantine order; while others prefer to pay more in the hope of a more accurate reading.
Given that all kits available on the market have been approved by the authorities, it is difficult to justify paying a premium for a single-use kit. And I believe it is the sentiment of most people, especially when ART kits have become essential in every household.
So, it was good to know that the authorities were well aware of the situation and came up with a solution so swiftly to tackle the issue. Kudos!
