KLK Gabungan emerged winners of the National Sepak Takraw League Tournament held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 78th birthday celebration after defeating the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) ‘A’ 2-0 at the Sungai Kebun Sports Complex last weekend.
The five-day long tournament, which commenced on September 20, saw the participation of 30 teams. The tournament was contested in a league format whereby teams were divided into 10 groups consisting of three teams each.
The winners from each group advanced to the second round and subsequently to the quarterfinals, semifinals and culminating in the final.
A majority of the five-a-side teams comprised talented young players and national players apart from former national players categorised as a veteran.
All teams produced a good level of play and unearthed fresh talents of young players to shine in future competitions and to be absorbed into national sepak takraw team. – Fadhil Yunus
