Klang cops hunt for vigilantes who beat up lorry driver

ANN/THE STAR – An angry mob allegedly beat up the lorry driver and damaged his truck which was involved in a fatal accident with a motorcycle on Jalan Telok Gong in Klang.

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Cha Hoong Fong said they received a report from the 36-year-old lorry driver at 8.14pm on Wednesday.

“He claimed that he was beaten up by several people following the accident.

“Our investigations revealed that following the collision a group of men gathered and beat up the lorry driver and smashed the truck’s wind-shield,” he said in a statement yesterday. He said the lorry driver suffered injuries to his cheek, a swollen eye and other injuries.

“He received medical treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital.

“We have opened investigations for rioting and committing mischief and causing damage,” he said, adding that police were now working on tracking down the suspects involved.

It was reported that a nine-year-old was killed in a road accident after a lorry crashed into a motorcycle.

The incident occurred along Jalan Tengah in Kampung Telok Gong on Wednesday.

“Three victims were involved and one of them died at the scene,” he said.

It is learnt that the motorcycle rider, a 54-year-old woman, was sending her neighbour’s two children back from school.

ACP Cha advised the public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands.

He said the public could detain a person through a citizen’s arrest but must never resort to violence.
