Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) were held to a 1-1 draw by Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) in the latest tie of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Football Championship 2021 among Higher Learning Institutions at Field ‘A’ of the UBD Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Mohd Adi Shahirol gave KIGS the lead in the 11th minute but Md Ijral Halim scored an equaliser for UNISSA just five minutes later.
Meanwhile, the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) enjoyed a 7-4 victory over Micronet International College (MIC), while Politeknik Brunei (PB) defeated Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) 3-1.
Jointly organised by UBD’s Student Affairs’ Section and the Students’ Association, the tournament commenced on June 14 and will continue until July 31.
IBTE, KUPU SB, PB, MIC and Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology are in Group ‘A’, while hosts UBD, UTB, UNISSA, KIGS and Laksamana College of Business (LCB) make up Group ‘B’.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals which will be held on July 24-26.
The winners in the last four will book a spot in the final on July 31 to compete for the title. The competition continues tomorrow with UTB taking on LCB in Group ‘B’.
The meet aims to foster closer ties among students of higher learning institutions and the championship hosts, while also identifying players who have the potential to represent the higher learning institute football team in future tournaments.
