An Indian man charged with kidnapping on Thursday was ordered by court to undergo psychiatric evaluation as suspicions arose on his mental health upon arrest.
Allegations against Hyderali Ilyas state that he had stolen a Toyota Corolla and kidnapped a 10-year-old girl, a 9-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl at 10.50pm on January 5 at a shop in Kampong Lumut.
The charges carry lengthy jail terms and fines. Deputy Public Prosecutor Fitri Kiprawi applied for the defendant to undergo mental assessment as he posed a security threat to the court during his unpredictable behaviour during arrest.
Acting Senior Magistrate Kamaliah Fadhilah binti Haji Ibrahim ordered the defendant remanded at Jerudong Prison, to be evaluated. The case was adjourned to January 21.
