The village head election in Kampong Lambak ‘B’ on Sunday witnessed a voter turnout of 125 eligible residents.
Held at the Datu Mahawangsa Lambak Primary School, 74 cast their votes for Pengiran Jofri bin Pengiran Haji Zaidi with 48 opposing and three spoilt ballots.
Pengiran Jofri, 55, a retired Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) personnel and former senior security personnel at the Embassy of the United States of America, was recommended by Haji Pungut bin Haji Jair, with the support of Haji Nordin bin Buyong and Syukri @ Nur Muhd Hidayat bin Semail.
The voting was witnessed by Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maon, who is also Penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘B’ and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘A’ as the event co-chairperson and Brunei-Muara District Officer Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim.
Misle said that the election was decisive in determining the village’s well-being for the next five to 10 years.
“A village head must be highly qualified, firm, and a part from the local community leadership.
A village head must possess integrity, fairness, ethics, patience and forgiveness among other traits, as these necessary in spearheading the development of the village.
“Continuous cooperation and support as well as solidarity, understanding and cohesion in the village community are needed to achieve the aspiration”, he said.
The residents were also briefed on the voting procedure by Special Duties Officer and Head of the Mukim and Village Institution in the Brunei-Muara District Rosdin bin Haji Abdul Aziz. The results will be forwarded to the Board of Appointment, Discipline and Procedures for Mukim Penghulus and Village Heads under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
