Kendo tourney marks 20th anniversary

The Kendo Federation of Brunei Darussalam held a mini tournament in conjunction with its 20th anniversary at the Youth Centre in the capital yesterday.

Haji Muhammad brushed aside competition to win the men’s individual shiai category with Anwarul Ariffien bin Hamzah finishing runners-up.

Muhd Zainul Arifin bin Mohd Jaffar secured third place with Nurazrin bin Omar taking fourth.

Meanwhile, in the men’s individual iaido category (Sword’s Kata), Anwarul Arriffien emerged winner followed by Dinie Khairul Hilmi bin Haji Noordin in second place and Azrin in third place. Zainul Ariffin came in fourth.

President of Kendo Federation of Brunei Darussalam Pengiran Alimin bin Pengiran Haji Metussin said, “Kendo represents our contribution to Brunei Darussalam in guiding the youth as well as those who are interested in the sport.”

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Youth and Sports Mariam binti Ulat said, “I hope the athletes benefitted from the tournament. I also hope more will be carried out in the future.

She called kendo athletes to take the opportunity and use the tournaments as a platform to hone their skills.
