Keeping healthy the home-based fitness way

A PUBLIC talk on ‘Fit Families’, organised by Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD) was held at the Mitsubishi Hall of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday.

Coach Masura Riang and Coach Shazrinah Shazali, fitness coaches for SOBD, the first speakers, spoke on ‘Home-Based Fitness’ which helped the public to acquire a different perspective towards fitness in general.

The second speaker was Bakhtiar Hafeez Bandial, founder of ‘The Healthy Habit’, and touched on ‘The Importance of Nutrition in Promoting Child Growth and Development’. He highlighted the importance of consuming nutritious food during childhood, when rapid growth and development of the child’s body takes place.

He also emphasised that eating habits that have been developed during childhood are likely to remain throughout life and therefore, it is important to have a good nutritional foundation.

The talk also saw Jasmin Brahim speaking on ‘Fitness at Home (and Anywhere)’, which explained how fitness helped her daughter with Down Syndrome.

According to her, ‘Home-Based Fitness’ helped her daughter’s brain development through fitness and learning exercises and she also shared the approaches they took as a family to establish a fitness routine for their daughter.

The talk aimed to raise awareness and expand public knowledge on fitness and nutrition to practise a healthy lifestyle and at the same time, promote home-based practices to cultivate healthy habits.
