Keep workers in the loop to avoid fine, minister tells employers

Employers must keep their workers abreast with Operasi Pulih-related updates to keep them from getting fined, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah said at the press conference yesterday.

“Perhaps some did not watch the press conference announcing the increase in penalty to be imposed for flouting the Operasi Pulih rules. What is important is that employers must relay the message to their workers.

“Hopefully, with the steeper fine, the public will cooperate better and not take the matter lightly. With the increase in fine announcements made through media outlets, it is hoped the public will refrain from going out between the hours of 8pm to 4am,” the minister said.

“If a foreign worker is caught breaking the rule, the employer will also be fined BND500 per worker found to be in violation of Operasi Pulih rules.

“If five workers are caught, the employer would be fined BND2,500,” Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew said.
