The Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) yesterday opened its 69th Annual Representative Meeting at the PGGMB School in Kampong Sungai Akar.
The guest of honour was Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, who was welcomed by PGGMB President Haji Antin bin Ahad and the association’s executive members.
In his speech, Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti encouraged the PGGMB members to keep up their unifying and cooperative practices, so as to support the association’s goal in striving for excellence.
He also advised them to look to at any problems or issues within the association as a challenge, “because it is only human nature to have differing opinions and views. This is where we need to maintain our mutual understanding and the attitude of Berat sama dipikul, ringan sama dijinjing (shouldering heavy burdens and bearing light burdens together).”
The minister said the Syarikat Kerjasama & Bantu Membantu (SKS & BM) under the PGGMB Association has contributed around BND130 million from 1952 to the present day, to help build houses and rooms, and even providing funds for members with loans or debts that are delayed, or who are unable to repay the loans.
“Alhamdulillah, such management deserves acknowledgement for the excellent principles and Islamic concepts that are being implemented in their administration. This should be an example to all,” he said.
Later, the minister presented certificates of appreciation to members of the Working Committees at the 35th ASEAN Council of Teachers + 1 Convention and the 18th Nusantara Teachers’ Meet (PGN18), both hosted by PGGMB last September and participated by more than 600 delegates from ASEAN member countries.
Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti also presented certificates to several students whose parents are PGGMB members, for obtaining excellent results in last year’s Brunei Cambridge ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels, Primary School Assessment (PSR), Brunei Religious Education Higher Certificate (STPU) and Brunei Religious Education Certificate (SPUB).
Later, more than 200 association members representing 13 zones across the four districts attended the 69th Annual Representative Meeting conducted and chaired by Permanent Chairman of PGGMB Haji Jamal bin Haji Kahar.
The meeting focussed on annual reports presented by the Secretary of Finance and the Secretary General, covering various aspects of social and economic activities.
The session concluded with an endorsement of the minutes at the meeting.
