KASUKA FC climbed to second place in the DST Super League for at least 24 hours after overpowering nine-man Setia Perdana in a 4-1 victory at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last night.
Kasuka grabbed the lead through Md Alinur Rashimy Haji Jufri in the second minute but Setia Perdana hit back through Marzuki Haji Madun in the eighth minute.
The half time team talk in the Kasuka’s dressing room seemed to have worked wonders as they produced a dominant display in the second half.
The signs of a revival were imminent after Md Khairul Anwar Abdul Rahim released an onrushing Mohd Hanif Aiman bin Haji Adanan but Setia Perdana’s Md Hafizudin bin Haji Salleh defended well to halt his progress.
Kasuka reclaimed the lead in the 53rd minute after Mohd Nazri Haji Hassan connected a fine cross and flicked his header past the Setia Perdana goalkeeper.
Things got worse for the newly-promoted side as they were reduced to ten men after Md Kamarul Zaman bin Ali received his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
Kasuka’s star substitute Muhammad Maududi Hilmi bin Kasmi created space to find an opening but his shot was directed straight at the goalkeeper.
Kasuka veteran Rosmini bin Haji Kahar struck the post before his subsequent attempt flew wide. Md Alinur Rashimy nearly added his second of the game after his shot rattled against the crossbar.
Muhammad Maududi Hilmi ensured that the points were safe after striking a venomous shot into the bottom corner.
Setia Perdana’s frustrations grew as Md Azim bin Said was dismissed from the game for a second bookable offence.
Mohd Adi Shukry Salleh powered a fierce drive in stoppage time to assert their dominance in the second half.
