KASUKA FC closed the gap at the top of the table to seven points after a 3-1 win over MS PDB in the DST Super League at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
The Brunei-Muara District club kept their title hopes alive and made sure that the league leaders MS ABDB are still within reach.
The army personnel remained favourites to land a fourth successive crown after potentially ending Indera SC’s title challenge with a 2-1 victory on Friday night.
MS ABDB and Kasuka FC still have to face each other but the title could have been sewn by then if the former accumulate enough points or the latter slip up.
Wijaya FC, who won against Najip FC last Friday, had previously made it a four-horse race but the defeat to Kota Ranger FC was one too many for their slim title hopes.
Kasuka raced to a 2-0 lead against the police personnel in the first half through a double from Muhammad Maududi Hilmi bin Kasmi.
Md Mardi Mirza bin Abdullah Bujang added a third in the 68th minute before Muhd Farish Aryan bin Abdul Rahman grabbed a consolation 10 minutes later.
Kasuka will be the third team other than Indera and Kota Ranger to battle MS ABDB for the title if they keep their current form until the end of the season.
Kota Ranger ran MS ABDB close last season but their title race ended after a draw to Tabuan Muda at the penultimate game of the season.
MS ABDB’s next test in the title race could be against Kota Ranger FC next week with Kasuka visiting struggling Najip FC on the same weekend.
