    Kampong Sungai Liang village head election on February 13

    Kampong Sungai Liang will conduct its election for the next village head on February 13, said Acting Belait District Officer Mohamad Yassin bin Haji Ahmed.

    The election for the post of village head for Kampong Sungai Liang will be held at the SPARK Multi-purpose Hall from 8am to 11am on February 13 for offline coting, while e-voting will be held at 8am on February 11 to 11am on February 13.

    He made these comments at a briefing to shed light on how to better utilise the newly implemented PMKK e-voting system and mobile application, especially among members of the Mukim and Village Consultative Council in Belait District yesterday.

    The event at the Kampong Sungai Liang Community Hall marked the third briefing following the first and second in the Temburong and Tutong districts.

    Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Penghulu of Mukim Liang Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin and Kampong Sungai Liang Acting Village Head Haji Mohd Ibrahim bin Datu Maharaja Setia Dian also attended the event.

    Mohamad Yassin highlighted the briefing’s importance in providing a better understanding on the systems in place, primarily the use of e-voting application, officially launched by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong on October 2, 2021.

    “With the use of PMKK e-voting, residents can carry out their responsibilities and vote for a village head in a quicker and more efficient manner.”

    Head of the Local Authorities and Communities Division (District) at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) Jaimah binti Tuah also delivered a briefing during which topics on the aim of PMKK e-voting system to supplement traditional manual voting, and how combined with the new system will include three voting methods – online voting through e-Voting, offline voting through the use of specially prepared tablets, and ballot papers.

    The votes will be collected in one place to ease the counting process and produce results quickly, accurately and efficiently.

    Other topics included the registration process for citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam aged 18 and above, who are eligible to vote by downloading the e-voting application via Google Play Store or App Store.

    Once an e-Darussalam account has been obtained, registered voters are screened and reviewed every three months to ensure eligibility. Registered voters, who have moved to a new area, must update their new home address at the Immigration and National Registration Department before continuing to register as a voter of the new village.
