Three houses were destroyed and two damaged in a fire at Kampong Sungai Tamoi Tengah in Kampong Ayer late on Monday night.
Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) said no injuries were reported and the estimation of losses and cause of fire are under investigation.
Twenty-three firefighters on board four boats and one fire engine from the Pelancaran Fire Station and Sungai Kebun Fire Station with support from Bandar Seri Begawan Fire Station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 11.23pm.
The team, led by Commanding Officer of Operation ‘D’ Branch SSFR Amirul Hadi bin Haji Junaidi, brought the fire under control in 15 minutes. Members of the Royal Brunei Police Force, Community Development Department, Department of Electrical Services, Brunei-Muara District Office, penghulu and village head were also present.
The FRD advised the public to ensure their homes are equipped with fire extinguishers, fire blankets and battery-operated smoke detectors while wirings and electrical appliances should be installed by qualified technicians.
Appliances when not in use should be switched off and gas regulator unplugged or covered when unused.
