Gusty showers or thundershowers are expected to occur especially at seas and coastal areas in Brunei, as tropical storm ‘Kalmaegi’ was observed 1,790km away from here, indirectly affecting the country.
According to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) yesterday, Brunei is currently in the inter-monsoon season which is the transition period between the Southwest Monsoon to the Northeast Monsoon, and will normally last until the end of November.
During this period, the local wind effects with strength slight to moderate, play an important role in governing the daily weather such as development of thunderstorm clouds around the country. It said the weather is typically hot during the day while thunderstorm occurrences are likely at the inland area in the afternoon and propagating out to the coastal and sea areas during late night to early morning.
Tropical Storm ‘Kalmaegi’ was observed east of the Philippines yesterday morning, and the BDMD said Brunei’s weather will be indirectly affected by the tropical storm.
It added that the sea-state may increase to moderate state up to 1.5 metres.
The BDMD advised the public to be alert with the current weather situation and take necessary steps and precautions. They will continue to monitor weather conditions and will issue weather advisory or warnings if necessary.
