COMMANDER of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Khairul Hamed bin Haji Lampoh officiated the Regional Jungle Warfare Symposium (RJWS) 2019 at the Defence Academy of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Tanah Jambu yesterday.
Held from June 27 to July 2, the RJWS is jointly organised by RBAF and British Forces Brunei (BFB), with the theme ‘What are the ends, ways and means for delivering Joint and Inter Agency effects within the Jungle Environment’.
The symposium consists keynote presentations and discussions with topics ranging from potential security trends and threats to collective capacity-building for jungle-orientated operations.
Among the keynote speakers are Director Land Warfare British Army Major General Timothy Hyams, who will share on ‘Vietnam War’ and Commandant of Special Forces Training Warfare Centre, Malaysia Colonel Adi Ridzwan bin Abdullah, who will discuss ‘Lahad Datu Incident at Operational and Strategic Level Planning and Lesson Learnt’.
Since the RJWS’ inception in 2017 with the aim to develop Brunei Darussalam as a Centre of Excellence for Jungle Warfare, the number of participating countries has increased from 11 to 12, which are Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, United Kingdom and United States of America.
The RJWS also serves as a platform to build cooperation in the area of information exchange and to promote future collaborations in training and multilateral exercises between participating countries.
Over 200 Defence Attachés/Advisors, senior officers and personnel from the Ministry of Defence and RBAF, as well as other government agencies such as Royal Brunei Police Force, Internal Security Department, and Forestry Department attended the opening ceremony of the symposium.
