The Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) is offering a Breast Screening promotion for women of all ages from February 3 until March 14.
The promotion is held in conjunction with World Cancer Day observed annually every February 4.
Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall as stated in American Institute for Cancer Research.
It is one of the primary and leading causes of cancer in Brunei.
Approximately 130 women out of 510 cancer cases were diagnosed in their lifetime from breast cancer and 24 women out of 510 cases died from breast cancer.
Clinically, performing Mammogram or Ultrasound Breast is the recommended way to detect breast cancer.
JPMC provides patient care equipped with the state-of-the-art screening facilities.
Mammogram is a screening tool for early detection of breast cancer and gold standard screening according to World Health Organization (WHO) for women aged 40 and above.
Performing it annually starting at age 40 is the best strategy to avert an early breast cancer death. While ultrasound can be as effective as mammogram in detecting breast cancer in women, and even more accurate in some cases, mammogram is still advisable to screen for tumours and other breast abnormalities.
The Department of Diagnostic Imaging is open from Monday to Friday from 8am to noon, and from 1pm to 5pm (closed from noon to 2pm for Friday prayers).
The clinic is open from 8am to noon on Saturdays.
