The Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) in cooperation with the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) conducted a series of joint operations in the beginning of January along Sungai Brunei including Sungai Lampai Jetty, Terminal BSB Jetty, Yayasan Jetty, Al-‘Afiah Kiulap Jetty and Sungai Kebun Jetty.

The operations aimed to inspect passenger boats to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

A total of 18 boats were inspected and only three were found registered. Another five were found with expired licences to carry passengers and 10 boats were not registered.

In efforts to heighten boating safety awareness of passengers and operators, MPABD has taken the initiative to remind the public and boat operators on the importance of wearing life jacket while on board. These reminders were in the form of stickers that MPABD attached on registered passenger boats and also stickers that display the number of passengers allowed on the boats.

MPABD will carry out more enforcement operations, and activities aimed at raising more awareness on boat safety requirements and compliance to relevant regulations implemented by MPABD.
