The Public Works Department (JKR), Ministry of Development addressed the issue of yellowish water being experienced in some areas at the moment.
Over the past few days, the quality of raw water at the Tutong River has been inconsistent and contains a high level of Colour Unit or darkness. However, the Bukit Barun water treatment plant has increased desludging operations to reduce floc and prevent the water filtration system from clogging.
The operation has resulted in disruption of water supply/low water pressure in some areas, especially highlands.
The department is also enhancing efforts to handle the issue by implementing operation works such as washing water storage tanks, using additional chemicals, ensuring all filtration tanks, purification ponds, chemical doses and pumps at the water treatment plant are functioning well, and monitoring raw water quality.
The department is continuously monitoring the quality of water supply based on World Health Organization Standards guidelines parameters. The department also conducts routine monitoring of water sample testing as well as continuous flushing operations of water pipelines in the affected areas.
JKR advises the public especially those who own home water tanks and filtration, to ensure the equipment is kept clean with routine flushing and backwashing.
