Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) yesterday organised the ‘Shine the Light on World Cancer Day’ at the veranda of the Jerudong Park Country Club (JPCC) to mark World Cancer Day 2020.
Minister of Health and Deputy Chairman of the PJSC Board of Directors Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar was the guest of honour.
Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy) and Chairman of the Jerudong Park Country Club Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin also attended.
Cities around the world are lighting up major landmarks, iconic buildings and monuments in blue and orange lights to mark World Cancer Day. In Brunei, the World Cancer Day initiative was marked by the lighting of the Sultanate’s architectural gem, the Jerudong Park Crystal Arch.
PJSC Executive Director Dr Haji Mazrul Adimin bin Haji Awang Besar said that the PJSC as a specialised medical centre through its arm, The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC), has pledged to take more proactive steps and execute activities to educate, detect early and prevent cancer together, with PJSC’s partners from private, government and non-govermental agencies, locally and internationally.
“World Cancer Day is one singular initiative commemorated every February 4. PJSC is a member of the Union of International Cancer Control representing Brunei Darussalam. The slogan of World Cancer Day being carried for three consecutive years from 2019 to 2021 is ‘I Am and I Will’ – a campaign that was built to resonate, inspire change and mobilise action long after the World Cancer Day has passed,” he said.
Among the activities that will be carried out in conjunction with World Cancer Day is the Walk, Run and Cycle together with Health Promotion Centre on February 9, a colorectal cancer symposium and the Early Detection and Cancer Prevention Services under TBCC that will serve as a platform to create an avenue for cancer related conversations, educational talks and many more.
