Jaywalking needs to end

I was driving along Jalan Muara recently when a man crossed the road rather abruptly.
I had to pull the emergency brake to avoid hitting him.

To make matters worse, his friend, who chickened out of joining him, laughed at the incident with no care for the magnitude of the situation had I not been able to stop my car on time.

These jaywalkers need to be reined in before tragedy strikes.

While it is enticing to build more zebra crossings to put a stop to the reckless behaviour, there need to be public awareness of what these crossings are for.

I hope the authorities would extend road safety campaigns beyond schoolchildren to include foreign nationals, given that they make up a vast majority of pedestrians in the country.
