Jawi workshop attracts 26

The Belait District Religious Affairs Office at the Ministry of Religious Affairs conducted a jawi writing workshop in conjunction with the 39th National Day celebration to disseminate information on the proper techniques of writing jawi.

Held yesterday at the library of the Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque, the workshop was attended by 26 participants including officers, staff members, youth and students from across the Belait District.

Head Religious Officer in the Belait District Affairs Office Mohammad Aliyani bin Ismail who witnessed the workshop presented certificates of participation.

Leading the workshop was Special Grade Religious Teacher Khairol Helmy bin Abdullah and trained religious teacher at the Islamic Studies Department Muhd Firdaus bin Muhd Qarar.

The speakers highlighted the various aspects of writing jawi, including an introduction to seni khat or jawi calligraphy, its history, the various styles, equipment used as well as the techniques in writing jawi calligraphy.

The department hopes that it will create a platform where the participants will continue to enhance their knowledge on jawi calligraphy.

It is also aimed to instil a love for reading and writing jawi as a heritage and identity of the nation.
