THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced a local man to 30 months’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane, after he pleaded guilty to six charges of extortion.

Endy Sumarday bin Omar, 35, posed as a woman named ‘Nadhirah’ during his interaction with six men on WeChat, which eventually gave way to live video chats.

During these chats, Endy posted up pictures of a naked female, while his victims disrobed to the point of nudity.

Endy then told the victims that their nude images had been captured, and he threatened to distribute the videos on social media unless they paid him some money.

He received a sum totalling BND1,200 from those who had participated in the chat sessions with ‘Nadhirah’ from August 2018 to February 2019.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali informed Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman that it was a chat session on February 5 which finally led to the defendant’s arrest.

After getting the victim to disrobe for that live chat, Endy then threatened to circulate his nude video, unless he paid up BND300.

The victim paid the money by online banking transfer and lodged a police report, which then led to the defendant’s arrest.
