THE International School Brunei (ISB)’s Board of Directors recently held an awards ceremony for International Baccalaureate (IB) and International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) students who scored outstanding results in their final examinations in May 2018.
The event also marked the first time that financial bursaries were awarded to those who attained excellence in the IB programme, for the cost of their tertiary education.
For reaching the top echelon of IB results, graduates received Excellence Awards in Bronze, Silver or Gold categories for points between 37 and 45. For achieving substantial performance improvement throughout their IB years, graduates were awarded a special Achievement Award.
The 2018 IB graduates were awarded with one Gold, seven Silver, seven Bronze and seven Achievement Awards.
In his welcoming remarks, Chairman of the ISB Board of Directors Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa outlined the Board’s continuous endeavours to do more for outstanding students in a fair and meaningful way, culminating in the Excellence and Achievement Awards, in addition to the long-standing scholarship programme.
The 2018 IB graduates collectively achieved the best ever results recorded in the history of the ISB, with an average of 34 points (out of a total of 45), substantially exceeding the worldwide average of 29 points and demonstrating that Brunei’s longest established international school continues to live up to its mission of building futures for university-bound global citizens.
Also in attendance were Nur Shahidah binti Shahbudin, ISB’s very first Sultan Scholar Scholarship recipient; and Head of Private Education Division at the Ministry of Education Marina Chek binti Bujang.
