Forty-four years ago, in these days, one of the most popular revolutions of the 20th century was victorious.
The revolution that succeeded in bringing a system based on religious democracy to the Iranian society with the support of the role and presence of the people in the social and political arena of the country. For more than four decades, Iranians have played a key role in determining their political-social destiny through democratic mechanisms, said Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran (I.R. Iran) to Brunei Darussalam Homeira Rigi Zirouki on the 44th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution and I.R.Iran’s National Day.
She said: “I.R.Iran has been the owner of one of the oldest human civilisations in history with a progressive governance system. In the past four decades, despite the conspiracies and obstacles created by the enemies, which resorting to imposed war and sanctions and economic terrorism, maximum pressure and in the latest example, combined war, the Iranian people and government have obtained many scientific, economic and technological achievements, which has appeared in the field of self-sufficiency of agricultural products, industrial products, nanotechnology, peaceful nuclear energy, etc that the statistics of reputable international institutions indicate the comprehensive progress and development of I.R.Iran, especially in the field of science and technology.
“Currently, Iranian women actively and freely play roles in various political, social, scientific, sports, artistic, and other fields. Fifty five per cent of students, 40 per cent of doctors and 33 per cent of faculty members in Iranian universities such as 21,000 female faculty members teaching in universities, currently are women. There are 16 women representatives in the Parliament and a significant number of women are active in the city and village councils.
“In the field of sports, female athletes are also very active and have won 3,302 medals in international sports events. In the field of art as well, it can be mentioned that Iranian women filmmakers have won 114 national awards and 128 international awards.
“The foreign policy of I.R.Iran, based on the principles and values of the Islamic Revolution, has continuously been a herald and defender of peace and justice, rationality, independence and rejection of discrimination, aggression, intervention and foreign domination in the international arena.
“The people of I.R.Iran always support I.R.Iran’s foreign policy. Iranians are proud that in the past 44 years, whenever there is a dialogue and agreement based on mutual respect, they have always respected those agreements and are fully committed to all its requirements.
“In recent months, a few countries with the approach of opposing the religious teachings and resorting to a combined and full-scale war, attacked the security of the society and the unique stability of the country and they were trying to implement their sinister goals by implementing a divisive project between the nation and the government. But the strong will and vigilance of the Iranian people, along with the empathy of all ethnicities and religions and different political views, failed this hostile project and once again imposed a shameful and heavy defeat on them.
“During the recent events, a number of people, especially youth, committed wrong behaviours and crimes as a result of the foreign interferences of the enemy, which in addition to causing social unrest, caused hardship to their families and relatives. After the plan of foreign enemies and anti-revolutionary and anti-people currents were exposed for them, they expressed regret. I.R.Iran’s leadership, in recent days, based on the principle of Islamic tolerance, pardoned a significant number them.
“I.R.Iran has played an incomparable role in ensuring the stability and security of the region and the world with its heroic zeal in the front line of fighting against the sinister phenomena of terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking and paying a heavy spiritual and material price.
“Alhamdulillah, the bilateral relations between I.R.Iran and Brunei Darussalam, which have always been based on friendship and mutual understanding and good fraternal relations as two Muslim countries, have been strengthened during the four-year period of my tenure.
“The official meetings between the officials of the two countries, the exchange of delegations, the holding of specialised committees and meetings, the academic and scientific communication and the growth of the trade exchanges between the two countries, show the good relations between the two Asian-Islamic countries.
“The most important turning point in the relations between the two countries has been the increasing communication between the people to people and the academic and scientific elites of the two countries. Because I firmly believe that, the formation of a strong people to people relationships an effective step in the direction of the correct recognition of nations, strengthening of relations between scientific-academic and social elites, and exchange of experience for the development and progress of their countries, and it will make it possible to achieve a more beautiful world with peace and tranquility.
“Brunei Darussalam, with the intelligent leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has reached a good position in terms of comprehensive development, and I am sure that with the people’s support, on the way forward, specific goals of the vision 2035 of this country will be fully realised successfully.
