Involvement in education helps boost confidence, parents told

TUNGKU Primary School Cluster 1 organised a programme for parents on Saturday regarding the responsibilities in nurturing their children’s education both at school and at home.

The invited speaker was Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Nawi, Chairman of Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College Parent-Teacher Association and formerly Director of Curriculum Development, Ministry of Education, who gave a talk titled ‘Heading towards Education Excellence of Our Children’.

Other guests included the Assistants Headmistress of Tungku Primary School, village heads and officers from the Department of Schools.

The event began with a recitation of a Doa by Ustaz Md Amiruddin bin Haji Md Zaidi, the school’s Head of Religious Teachers. Dzulbaharin bin Haji Sulaiman, Headmaster of Tungku Primary School, gave the welcoming speech and thanked the parents for their participation.

The invited speaker explained that parents’ involvement in their children’s education helped boost the children’s confidence, and also strengthen the rapport between parents and children. Parents also participated in activities like the Brain Gym as a way to motivate and trigger children’s interests, scheduling routines at home to allow time to work on the children’s education together.

The event ended with parents participating in quizzes for which they were rewarded for their involvement. Rewards were given by the speaker. The event ended with a Doa recitation and an appreciation token given to the speaker by the school’s headmaster.

The programme was hoped to instil awareness in parents regarding the importance of parents’ involvement in their children’s education.
