Interns look ahead to future careers

Six interns with Serikandi Engineering Design Services (EDS) were feted at the end of their placements in a ceremony at KB Sentral on Friday.

Three students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and three students from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) worked for two months under various departments in Serikandi EDS – Process Department, Process Automation and Control Optimisation (PACO) Department, Mechanical Department, and Electrical Department.

Chairman and Managing Director of Serikandi Group of Companies Shaikh Haji Khalid bin Shaikh Haji Ahmad was the guest of honour, accompanied by Serikandi Oilfield Services Chief Executive Officer Revi Thuruthiyil Bhaskaran as well as Contract Manager for Serikandi EDS Dato Paduka Haji Awang Jamain bin Haji Julaihi.

Also present were representatives from UBD and UTB and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) Contract Holder Haji Mustafa bin Mokti.

Shaikh Haji Khalid congratulated the six interns for completing their internship, noting that their success correlates to Serikandi’s commitment in developing local talents.

“For the first half of this year, Serikandi as a group had provided placement for a total of 20 internship students, six of them were assigned to Engineering Design Services Division and today, they have completed their two-months internship programme successfully,” he said.

One of the interns, Awangku Abdul Mu’az bin Pengiran Zamanulalam, said they gained valuable lessons in their respective field of work as well as career advices which will help enable them to pursue their future careers.

“The internship has allowed us to learn, expand our skills, and revise our future career goals. Lastly, I would like to thank Serikandi Engineering Design Services for the experience and exposure and we hope that Serikandi Oilfield Services will continue to strive to be one of the top oil and gas service provider for years to come.”

Irdina Batrisyia binti Yakub, from UTB also shared her experiences.

“In a short period of time, we were able to improve on our soft skills, such as communication skills, confidence, discipline, and greater respect for others,” she said, expressing hopes of putting these skills and knowledge to good use in pursuing her future career.
