Inspection unearths labour violations

The law enforcement divisions of the Labour Department and the Immigration and National Registration Department found eight violations under the Employment Order 2009, during a joint operation on September 7 at food stalls in Kampong Anggerek Desa.

Officials found employers violating the requirements of the foreign workers’ licence by instructing the employees to perform duties not aligned with their job titles, such as a cook manning the food stall.

Other violations included the failure to grant gazetted public holidays, failure to provide annual paid leave, instructing employees to work beyond the legal limit and on rest days, not paying overtime, and the failure to provide medical insurance for employees.

The employers, if found guilty, will face a compound fine of up to BND1,000. – Fadley Faisal
