A 43-YEAR-OLD Indonesian man was sentenced by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to nine months’ jail with three whippings for overstaying his welcome for 1,924 days.

Agus Bunari was stopped in his car by immigration enforcement officers who were tipped-off and found him on Jalan Tanjong Selasih, RPN Mengkubau before 10am on March 7.

He failed to provide travel documents and was taken in for investigation.

Investigations revealed that the defendant overstayed since November 30, 2013 after the expiry of his visit pass.

The defendant said he did not have his passport after handing it to a person who was supposed to help him extend his visit pass.

The prosecution said the defendant failed to file a report to the authorities to ensure that his stay in the country remains legal.

Immigration prosecutor Adi Yusra bin Haji Adanan prosecuted the case which was presided over by Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman.
