Indonesia reports 1,043 new COVID-19 cases, 40 new deaths

JAKARTA (XINHUA) – The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,043 within one day to 33,076, with the death toll adding by 40 to 1,923, Health Ministry official Achmad Yurianto said at a press conference yesterday.

According to him, 510 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 11,414.

The pandemic has spread to all the 34 provinces in the archipelagic country. However, as of noon yesterday no more positive cases were found in seven provinces, namely, Aceh, Riau Islands, Jambi, Bengkulu, East Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi.

The Indonesian government is preparing for the so-called “new normal” scenario, under which the public would be allowed to resume their routines.
