Individuals, companies fined for littering

Three companies and four individuals were slapped with compound fines by the Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department recently for violating Section 12 (1) Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act.

The violations discovered during a routine monitoring included disposal of construction waste, commercial waste, used Styrofoam and cigarette butts in Kampong Serusop, Kampong Bunut, Kampong Kiarong and Kampong Kiulap. Three companies were levied BND500 compound fines for violation under Section 12 (1)(c) and Section 12(1)(d), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act.

Locals Rosinah binti Abdullah, Mohammad Eddy Asbullah bin Ibrahim, Benny Lim Jin Hui and Zaenuddin were each issued with a compound fine of BND100.

The offenders have to settle their fines within seven days at the Finance Division, 3rd floor of BSB Municipal Department. Failure to do so would result in a further fine of BND1,000, or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.

For subsequent offences, the penalty is a fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to three months.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Division of the Belait District Office issued a BND500 compound fine to a company on Monday for irresponsible disposal of materials at a public area.

The compound fine was issued for a violation under Section 12(1)(c), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act.

The company was given seven days to settle the fine. Failure to settle will be forwarded to the courts and if found guilty, the company will be handed a BND1,000 fine or one month’s imprisonment. Subsequent offences will see a penalty of BND3,000 or imprisonment of no more than three months.
