    Individuals, businesses misusing Halal logo dealt with, says minister

    THE Ministry of Religious Affairs has taken action with regard to complaints on the misuse of the Halal logo by businesses in the country, Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman said. He made these comments at the Legislative Council meeting yesterday morning.

    These include random inspections at business premises, the minister said.

    “Misusing the Halal label is an offence under Chapter 37 of the Halal Certificate and Halal Label (Amendment) Order 2017,” he said.

    “Individuals and businesses who fail to abide by the terms and regulations stipulated under the Order can be produced in the courts.

    “Offenders found guilty will be fined BND800, while other offences relating to the misuse of the Halal permit and Halal label in food menus will result in offenders being brought to court and facing a BND2,000 fine.”
