The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) issued a BND100 compound fine on an individual on February 19 for littering a cigarette bud near a commercial building in Kampong Sengkurong. Abul Hasem Tutul was fined under the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021.
The offender has seven days to settle the fine. The failure to do so will result in court action, where penalties for littering range from BND1,000 to BND3,000 for the first offence, and up to BND9,000 or six months’ imprisonment for repeat offences.
JASTRe urged the public and business owners to maintain cleanliness and protect the environment, stressing the importance of keeping public spaces free from litter. – Daniel Lim
